Nokia 3250Put perfection to your ear...

N
okia's latest phone-cum-multimedia invention is pretty funky.

The keypad swivels around on a hinge, and on the other face is the MP3 player controls, so you can control the music playing easily rather than use the soft controls often found on most phones today.

And if you turn it halfway, the camera lens on the side works just like a video camera, using the screen as a focus.

This sounds like a really cool phone, hopefully the Finnish phone giant will value quality enough to use a CCD chip, and have sufficient memory and processor power to work this device.

And plenty of battery life, considering its multiple uses. Entertainment convergence seems to be the 3250's purpose. Let's hope it converges, and doesn't crash instead, like so many of the multimedia phones today.

Vertu Mobile Phone from Nokia

T
alk may be cheap, but not if you own a Vertu Mobile Phone from Nokia, studded with sapphire crystals and rubies and plated in 18 carat platinum, yellow gold or white gold.

And while most people are looking for features like Bluetooth and cameras, this tony handset serve as a handy status symbol in any setting just due to its hefty price tag of up to S$38,914 and even higher with additional diamond embellishments and other precious materials.

Vertu's signature product also has a policy of upgradeable technology called 'Evolutionary Technology' which allows the technology in the phone to be upgraded seamlessly, offering firmware upgrades for both existing and new products.

But that's not all... this phone comes with a concierge, which you can connect to 24 hours a day, worldwide, with a simple long hard press on the concierge key, gaining you access to a global network of hotels and entertainment venues, where you can receive preferential rates and top rate service. Ideal also if you ever find yourself in need of emergency medical assistance or last minute nightclub reservations.

This beautiful phone has a ceramic pillow for the earpiece and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal face, a chassis made of the finest Connolly hand-stitched leather, and ruby bearings under the keys for a smooth sound and feel with every press.

If that doesn't convince you, a small orchestra of polyphonic ring tones, crystal clear reception and high voice quality will. A new type of antenna boosts sensitivity, while the hi-fidelity system speaker provides rich full-bodied sounds, a real aural experience worth the money.

How the British-based Vertu adds luster to luxury cell phones.

vertu mobileThe story of almost any luxury item you own (or lust after) probably originates in an intimate, unassuming European workshop: Lamborghini sports cars are created in the Italian village of Sant Agata Bolognese; Hermés artisans hand-stitch leather Birkins in a Parisian suburb called Pantin; in Hamburg, a Montblanc craftsman tests every pen in an environment of absolute silence so that he may properly hear the scratch-woosh when the metal nib alights on paper.

Mass production be damned, an object's inherent allure - and value - increases dramatically if it stems from an artistic vision and is crafted by hand.

For your cell phone - yes, your cell phone - to tell a similar story it would have to be a Vertu. It would be fashioned of the most luxurious materials imaginable; from its sapphire crystal screen and sumptuous leather back case to its platinum rails and diamond-studded bezel.

It would hail from the company's headquarters in Church Crookham, a quaint town 39 miles west of London, where jewelry and watch industry specialists create the devices by hand, blending time-honored design traditions with 2lSt-Century mobile technology.

Relatively new to the luxury market's coterie of boutique brands, Vertu, a subsidiary of Nokia, was launched in 1998.

During the early sixties there were great changes in America, particularly, in the civil rights movements.

This meant black popular music became a lot more accepted. Soul and Motown were the main musical styles providing good fast music with a catchy beat which people could easily dance to.

These artists who sang for these labels such as Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson performed in good suits and always appeared very stylish carrying on the tradition of the jazz musicians of the decade before.

Clubs in London picked up on the popularity of this music and started to provide venues where young working class people could go to and dance. The youngsters who were attracted to by this style of music would naturally imitate their idols kicking off a trend of always dressing very stylish.
